Dr Sam Mudie
Dr Sam Mudie is a renowned energy and sustainability expert with over 15 years of experience in reducing energy use, carbon emissions, and operational costs across the built environment. Sam’s career spans academia, consultancy, and industry leadership, with a particular focus on enhancing energy efficiency and building performance. She co-founded Sustain-Ability Homes to empower housing providers and communities with the skills and knowledge to create healthier, more sustainable homes.
With a doctorate in energy efficiency in building operations, Sam's research has focused on the intersection of occupant behaviour, building systems, and sustainability. Her work includes groundbreaking studies on occupant interaction with building technologies, the effectiveness of retrofitting strategies, and post-occupancy evaluations. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has received awards for her contributions to building service engineering and sustainability education.
Sam also serves as Co-Director of Hospitality Energy Saving and Sustainability (HESS), where she leads projects to improve energy efficiency in the foodservice and hospitality sectors, working with restaurant and hotel groups, leisure and sports facilities, schools, care homes, and public sector organisations. Her expertise has been sought for high-profile initiatives, including partnerships with local councils and contributions to national efforts on electrification and decarbonisation.
A skilled educator, Sam excels at translating complex technical concepts into actionable insights. She regularly develops and delivers training programmes for a diverse range of audiences, including industry professionals, housing associations, tenants, higher education and community groups.
